Sisina Macchiarelli, DVM

Veterinarian

I grew up in Amsterdam, just down the road from Dove Creek Animal Hospital. My father had a variety of animals that he would raise, and I would always need to be included in caring for them. Chickens, rabbits, and even pigeons at one point. We had many stray cats that would wander onto the property and hang out in the greenhouse. My father would care for all of them, as well as our family dogs. I was a very inquisitive child, I always needed to know how things worked. That curiosity continued to grow as I got older. This curiosity spilled into veterinary medicine, and every vet appointment led to me researching information afterward. I would even administer treatments to our pets when needed. The more I read, the more I needed to know. With my love for animals, and my growing interest in medicine, I knew a career in veterinary medicine was right for me.

The path to acquiring my degree was difficult. Along the way, I had many personal difficulties I had to overcome during my undergraduate years. I attended undergraduate school at Suny Oneonta where I acquired my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I was then accepted at St. George School of Veterinary Medicine and finished my clinical training at the University of Florida to obtain my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Over the years, my passion for medicine grew, and I felt a sense of fulfillment when I could help someone and their beloved pet.

I am forever grateful for those who were supportive and pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of. Family, friends, and professors, all of whom believed I could succeed. Success is a team effort, and this lesson I take to heart. When someone is coming to see me with their precious family member you’ll hear me say; “We are a team, I am here to work together with you to provide the best possible care for your loved one”.
